Abby & Throckmorton - June 19, 2004

We had been wanting to get dogs for some time , but thought it might be a bit longer, like toward the end of the year in 2004. But... it turns out that we went to a couple of nearby animal shelters on Saturday, June 19, with plans of adopting a couple dogs.

After visiting one shelter, we tried a second one, in Fort Worth, and found two dogs that seemed to get along well and that we liked by themselves. The decision was made! After filling out the paperwork and paying for them, we took them for the short ride in the car to their new home.

Abby is a beautiful (and soft!) female with some Lab and Pointer in her. After she got over her cough and runny nose, her personality came through. She's a happy, rambunctious, little girl. While she lets Throckmorton dominate some of the time, she always gets her way in the end. She loves to chew on soft objects, so we've had to make sure there are no shoes, socks, or stuffed animals within her reach!

Throckmorton is the boy, an attention-stealing Husky-and-Doberman-and-something (some say Shepherd) mix who seems to be very possessive of "his" stuff, both food and toys. He has begun to share things, but even if he has his own bone, he wants the one Abby is chewing on. The little toy hog! And he loves to be right in the middle of anything with you. He tried to help us paint the walls, tried to help us trim the bushes, tried to help us.......

We'll keep you up to date as they grow and mature, and become well-trained (we hope!).
